Portico improvement plans approved for Piedmont
Piedmont Virginia Community College has always taken pride in having a well maintained campus. To further this, the college plans to renovate the portico outside the north entrance, and eventually the south entrance, too.
Plans for the north portico’s refurbishments have been in talks since last spring and are expected to be approved later this month, with construction slated to begin later this fall.
“We wanted to make it look better. We have some carry-forward money for a one-time use and we decided, ‘Let’s go ahead and do this project,’” said William Jackameit, Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services.
After going through multiple incarnations of the design for the new portico, a plan that features open arches along the sides and a color scheme to match the brickwork was finally settled. This development is supposed to bring more unity to the area.
While the north entrance renovation is expected to go through shortly, plans for renovation of the south entrance will take longer, as it is tied up with other colleges in the Virginia Community College System. Current proposals for the south entrance include the re-grading and ultimate replacing of the sidewalk, as well as the more imminent replacement of the light poles. These changes are expected to be re-bid later this fall.
