PVCC brings diverse moves to Dickinson
As the semester winds down, the Piedmont Virginia Community College dance program has been hard at work to bring its annual fall performance to the Main Stage of the V. Earl Dickinson Building. This season’s recital, entitled “Dancescapes,” features ten original, diverse pieces choreographed by PVCC student and faculty members of the dance program.
The concert will showcase a variety of dance styles, including: ballet, jazz and Japanese Butoh. To boast about the diversity offered in “Dancescapes,” PVCC dance instructor, Michelle Cooper said, “It is hard to find this much variety in a single dance performance these days. What is great about coming to a PVCC dance performance is that no two pieces are alike.”
To further diversify the show, the performance will feature a number of male dancers, in addition to the female dancers. “I am excited to say we have four male dancers, which is the most we have ever had in a single performance,” said Cooper.
“Each performance is unique. We are lucky to have such diversity in the students we teach and perform with that range from age 15 to 67,” said Anne Megibow, a fellow instructor of dance at PVCC.
With the fall semester drawing to a close, the PVCC dance program promises to bring a diversely original recital to the stage that will stand out from most dance performances. “We are very blessed to have such a wonderful cast of dedicated and enthusiastic students,” said Cooper.
For those interested in attending, “Dancescapes” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 3. PVCC students may gain entrance for free with an Arts Voucher. General admission is $10 for the general public and $6 for senior citizens, faculty and students. Tickets are available by calling the PVCC Box Office at 434-961-5376, and may also be purchased at Plan 9 Music, Sidetracks or the University of Virginia Arts Box Office. The PVCC box office will also be selling tickets two hours before the performance.
