Volunteer Club hosts kids’ Halloween night
Piedmont Virginia Community College’s Volunteer Club hosted their second annual Halloween Community Kids’ Night on Friday, Oct. 19 in the Dickinson Building.
“Our goal for this event was to provide a fun event for the children in the community and bring awareness of PVCC’s ambition to play an active part in our community,” said Volunteer Club Co-President Rebecca Davis.
“We had a fairly good turnout of children and parents,” said Jesse Mlcoch, a member of the Volunteer Club. “It was good to see a mix of children of PVCC faculty, staff and students, as well as children from the community at large. I feel sure that everyone left with a smile on their face and each child walked out with a bag full of goodies.”
This activities included in this year’s event were games, pumpkin painting and a costume contest.
“The guided scary walk was the best part of the evening,” said Mlcoch. “There was a lot of effort put into converting a normal classroom into a scary pathway, but it ended up being a huge success. It was scary enough to make some of the adults jump.”
The Volunteer Club began planning the event the day after the event last year and officially started working on the event in September. A major change this year for the club was collaborating with other clubs at PVCC.
“I was really impressed with all of the volunteers that came out to help setup starting at 3 p.m. that day, as well as those that stayed until 9 p.m. to get everything cleaned up,” said Mloch. “In addition to Volunteer Club members, many people also came from clubs like Phi Theta Kappa, Youth Mentorship, and SGA to help out. There was a definite energy felt in the joined community of PVCC students.”
