BOYHOOD IS NOVEMBER FREE MOVIE FRIDAY AT PVCC
Charlottesville, Va. – Piedmont Virginia Community College continues its popular Free Movie Friday series with the critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama Boyhood on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Stage Theatre of the V. Earl Dickinson Building.
Filmed intermittently over 12 years with the same cast, Boyhood charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before. It is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason, who literally grows up on screen before the viewer’s eyes.
Boyhood was directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Waking Life, School of Rock), and stars Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke as parents to Mason, played by Ellar Coltrane in his film debut. The movie has garnered several major awards and was declared a landmark production by many notable film critics, with particular praise for its direction, acting and scope. It is rated R for language including sexual references, and for teen drug and alcohol use.
PVCC’s Student Art Club sponsors the Free Movie Friday series, which takes place on the third Friday of each month. The series will resume in January 2015 following PVCC’s winter break.
