Outdoor Movie Night

On Friday, Aug. 25, PVCC students, faculty, and staff gathered with their friends and family outside PVCC’s main building for some fun and entertainment in the warm summer weather. Fireflies twinkled in the air as people played volleyball and spikeball while enjoying free popcorn. However, the highlight of the evening began after the sun went down, when everyone gathered on lawn chairs and blankets, and unnatural light lit up the dark sky as 2017’s live-action movie Beauty and the Beast played on an outdoor screen.
The first week of Fall 2017 classes at PVCC contained days full of fun activities and free food to welcome students back to school. For the conclusion of Welcome Week on Friday, Aug. 25, Shawn Anderson, the coordinator of student engagement and student life, decided to host PVCC’s first outdoor movie event for PVCC students, friends, and family in celebration of the first week of school.
The event started at 5 p.m. with food and games. Little Johns, the restaurant on PVCC’s campus, stayed open longer than usual to allow attendees access to more food and drinks. The movie was scheduled to start at 7 p.m., but did not start until closer to 7:45 p.m. because the sun was still so bright.
While the turnout was not huge, it was enough people to encourage Anderson to plan another outdoor movie event for later in the semester.
