An Empire of a Performance: Latin Ballet Review
I had the chance of virtually experiencing the Latin Ballet of Virginia’s Enigmas de Nuestra Tierra, which was based on the history of the Mayan Empire. This play was filmed at PVCC’s main stage theatre on Nov 7 at 7:30 p.m. and was available to watch online until Nov 24.
First off, admittedly, I am not much of a history buff, so the story itself did kind of confuse me aside from knowing the overall plot, but everything else was fantastic. The set design, the costumes, the vibrant colors, and the music, all of it was exceptional and very well done by everyone involved.
What got me the most were the mesmerizing performances from these dancers and actresses. There was a bit of music as well, but the dances were what grabbed me more than anything else. Admittedly, this was some of the best ballet I have ever seen. The dances and the movements during each dance were so captivating, and it just glued me to the screen, which is something I definitely was not expecting.
The performance was very to the point, which was one of the best things about it. It told such a large event in history through dance and, even though some may have had a bit of trouble following the events/story, it was still nonetheless quite an experience, even through video.
