PVCC sports are ready for the season to come

Campus News Clubs News Sports

PVCC is home to tons of sports clubs and teams, and most students don’t even know it.

One of the most successful teams at PVCC is our soccer team, who brought home a championship last year and are back, ready to do it again this year. There is both an adult rec team, and for those looking for something a little less competitive, the soccer club welcomes members of all ages and experience levels. You can find them scrimmaging at the PVCC soccer field from 3:30 – 5 p.m. on Thursdays. The soccer club will have its first match against CVCC on Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. on the PVCC soccer fields. Theo Staengle, president of the soccer club, said that he and the rest of the team are extremely excited for this game and expect a pretty good student turnout to watch.

However, soccer is not all that PVCC has to offer. There are tons of clubs including ultimate frisbee, tennis, golf, and basketball.

Mary-Evelyn Sellars, coordinator of student life and campus engagement, says that there may even be a couple more clubs in the works. Sellars is committed to making the PVCC student life as robust and diverse as possible, so any student who wishes to bring their own sport to PVCC should contact her via text or by visiting her office, B305, which is on the third floor of the Bolick Center. Sellars has helped dozens of students form clubs and teams, she says her  main objective is to make the clubs, and all other campus activities “engaging, diverse, and inclusive,” and she is ready and willing to find resources and support for any club or student organization on campus. This includes helping athletes get the equipment they need, and helping to organize events for clubs. She encourages students to reach out to her if they need assistance.

Apart from clubs, many students are also not aware that PVCC has its very own fitness center, which includes a weight room, a heavy bag, and aerobic machines, as well as home workout videos on the fitness center website. The fitness center is open Monday through Wednesday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
