Pumpkin Painting With Peers
On Monday, Oct. 21, “It’s Fall Y’all!” was hosted in the Main Building Event Space. This event celebrated the segue into the cozy season of autumn, with bagels and pumpkin spice cream cheese, coffee with a variety of flavored creamers (whole and nut milks) and an activity of pumpkin painting in which students who passed by could participate in.
“It’s Fall Y’all” continued for the whole afternoon, allowing students to flow through between classes and grab a bagel or have a spontaneous conversation with a fellow student. Coordinator for Student Life and Campus Engagement Mary-Evelyn Sellars said, “I think events are very important to campus life […] it helps pass the time. Students love free food and they often get the opportunity to mingle and hang out.”
Sellars said that last year she brought six large pumpkins the day before Halloween, thinking that they wouldn’t get painted. When all of the pumpkins quickly did, she decided that this year she would make it an event and bring a bunch of smaller ones for everyone to enjoy.Students painted 18 pumpkins throughout the day, and the range of paintings went from Snoopy and Phoebe Bridgers album covers to random mosaics and all black pumpkins with red eyes. These pumpkins were voted on by the student body and held in the Main Building Event Space for observation until Oct. 30. The winners were announced at the Halloween party in the Main Building on Oct. 31.
