The Hidden Gem of Charlottesville
Mathew Fragola, staff writer
Blue Ridge Country Store is almost too good of a hole in the wall. If you are lucky enough to notice it, you have found a hidden gem. Walking into the shop, I was overwhelmed by the aroma of fresh fruits and vegetables. I saw Patty, the owner, immediately, and she was so welcoming she reminded me of my grandmother in a way.
As I walked through the store, it became difficult to decide what to eat because the options of healthy foods were endless. It was all so appealing, and I wanted to just have a sample of it all. I went to the register and I ordered the turkey and cheddar wrap, a custom pasta salad that I put together myself, and an iced coffee. I was astonished by how only $8 could get me that much food.
While I sat in a rocking chair getting ready to eat, I could see the salad bar and freshly baked goods seemed like the most popular options for the daily customers. The slow country music was low, and the chatter was at a minimum, probably because everyone was too into their food. As I bit into my wrap, I had to use two hands because it was rather large. The turkey melted in my mouth. I could tell that it was fresh, and I could not put down the first half. I then moved on to the pasta salad. The mixture of cold pasta, with a warm chopped boiled egg and feta cheese could not have tasted better.
It is located on the downtown mall at 518 east main street. Go in any time during the week before 5 p.m. and you will be satisfied. If you are looking for food that can fit your budget and diet, look no further than the Blue Ridge Country Store.
