PVCC’s Student Resource Center: Help and Resources for Students to Succeed

Campus News News

The PVCC Student Resource Center (SRC), formed in 2019, is a great resource for PVCC students who need help getting any essential items that they may not otherwise have. By visiting the SRC, students can access many beneficial services, including assistance with accessing off-campus aid and benefits through screening and referrals, and on-campus resources such as the Panther Pantry and Clothing Closet.

One of the primary resources offered by the SRC to students is assistance in  applying for off-campus benefits and services. Shannon Meade, manager of the SRC, said, “Some of these resources include benefits screenings to assist students with applying for local, state, and federal benefits, such as Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, and childcare assistance.” By helping students access these benefits, the SRC makes sure students receive the resources they need to succeed, even if they cannot directly provide them.

In the PVCC SRC office, the Panther Pantry provides students with a wide assortment of food choices, including a selection of both fresh and non-perishable foods. Along with the Panther Pantry, the Clothing Closet provides any clothes students may need.  “Students can find clothing, shoes, work uniforms, interview attire, school supplies, hygiene items and more at the closet,” according to the PVCC Student Resource Center webpage. Students can also access the Kathy Hudson Student Emergency Grant Fund for short-term financial emergencies or issues that may hinder their learning. If a student needs quick essential items or resources, the SRC’s on-campus resources are a huge help.Students are able to access the SRC in many ways. To receive any help or resources from the center, students must first fill out the student resource center survey. Once this is completed, students can visit the Clothing Closet or Panther Pantry on Mondays to Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PVCC students also have the option to schedule appointments to review resource options on Wednesdays or online through Navigate on MyPVCC.
